Residential Design
Kerlerec Residence
New Orleans, Louisiana
This residence is located on Kerlerec Street in the Historic neighborhood of Treme in New Orleans, Louisiana. Moorish Architecture is the inspiration for the design as the owner wanted to create a North African-styled courtyard at the rear of the house. Water is a principal design element in Moorish Architecture, connecting the past and present, evoking our emotions and senses. Therefore, the courtyard's centerpiece is a square pool measuring 15’-6” by 15’. Centered on the pool is an elevated wall featuring a brass water fixture with 3 waterspouts. This wall is a focal point and is adorned with Moorish tile, further enhancing the architectural theme.
To create a lush and inviting ambiance, planting is strategically placed as a backdrop for the pool and the elevated wall. This vegetation draws the attention of users and adds a natural element to the courtyard. Adjacent to the pool, there is a raised fire pit, accessible from the patio. This provides a cozy and warm gathering spot for the owners and their guests. Adjacent to the fire pit, is a pool jacuzzi, offering a luxurious and relaxing experience. The combination of water, vegetation, and thoughtful design creates an inviting and serene outdoor space in the heart of New Orleans.

Teverbaugh Residence
New Orleans, Louisiana
The Teverbaugh’s are a young dynamic family who wanted a modern space for relaxation and socializing. The backyard pool area was designed to match the aesthetic of their house, with clean lines and open spaces. It had its challenges in that their home is located near the London Ave. Canal and Lake Pontchartrain, but luckily fell outside the limits of these two major water bodies. Three concepts were provided to the client and one was selected.
The selected design focused on an L shaped pool design, including a spa and a water fall feature. A salt water pool was selected, as well as plants that are native or well adapted to the New Orleans climate.

Nevue Residence
New Orleans, Louisiana
The Nevue Residence landscape was part of the post hurricane Katrina restoration of a home located near Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, LA. The work included restoration and redesign of both the front and rear gardens and the pool.
The design of the pool which is an organic form reflects the lush and natural form of the planting and hard-scape layout. The rear garden was designed to allow plenty space for family activity, including the pool, but feature a varied pallet of tropical and southern plants that reflect Louisiana ecology.

Sholas Residence
New Orleans, Louisiana
The Historic District of Faubourg Marigny is possibly one of the most difficult places to attempt residential design in the City of New Orleans. This neighborhood founded in 1805, almost 90 years after the city was founded, fiercely protects its forms and functions of each lot, through the Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association. The Association and many of the residents are dedicated to catching up to and rivaling the strict guidelines of the adjacent French Quarter (Vieux Carre) Commission. Working to reimagine an overgrown 70’ X 70’ space connected to a house built in 1880, we approached the task in a manner that could be celebrated by the neighborhood yet not loose sight of the multiple programming agendas of our client. Dr. Sholas who at once, cherishes meditative spaces, also holds one of the largest Krewe du Vieux events in the neighborhood. He chose to create a space centered on a pool that could both serve as a major gathering place for hundreds and at other times a space for solitary reflection
