The Spirit of Charity Innovation District

New Orleans, Louisiana

DesignJones, LLC led the collaborative public engagement efforts for the Spirit of Charity Innovation District’s Strategic Planning Process. Community engagement efforts included surveying residents, workforce, students, and commuters; hosting several community workshops with citywide participation, and opening a Community Office to inform and engage residents and visitors about the District.

Throughout the summer of 2018, the Greater New Orleans Foundation began its Strategic Planning Process for the Spirit of Charity Innovation District. The Foundation worked with local experts and stakeholders in New Orleans to outline a comprehensive strategy that will lead to robust job growth, as well as equitable and inclusive development in the neighborhood surrounding the former Charity Hospital.

The Spirit of Charity Innovation District’s Strategic Planning Process included robust community engagement led by DesignJones, LLC; research and analysis of previous plans for the area, and the creation of a comprehensive strategy that incorporates economic development with a focus on equity, land use, affordable housing, mobility, and workforce development.

This planning process was supported by George Washington University Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis; The Data Center; JD Russell Consulting, LLC; and, DesignJones, LLC. The Spirit of Charity Innovation District strategy was released on September 24, 2018
