Central High School

Louisville, Kentucky

Central High School is an 150 year old institution, becoming the first African American High School in the state of Kentucky. It has become a historical jewel for Louisville, Kentucky within a complex landscape within an African American community. We were tasked with creating a Master Plan for the High School, and its surrounding neighborhoods. After in-person site visits, several staff, student and community surveys, meetings with community members and students, we also worked to enhance outdoor campus improvements, outdoor learning environments, mobility and circulation improvements, strengthen the African American cultural connections, and addressed stormwater management sustainability needs. This is still an on-going Master Plan.
